Okay, so I’ve been wanting to remake this super cool bag, the PRADA Re-Edition 1995 Chaine Re-Nylon Tote Bag, the one they have at the official flagship store. It’s a remake of a bag from ’95, which is pretty neat.
First, I started by looking up a bunch of pictures of the bag online. I needed to see every angle, every little detail. I found some good ones on the official store and a few other websites that had close-ups. This bag looked fancy but simple, so I figured I could do it.
Then, I got down to figuring out the materials. The description said it’s made from at least 50% recycled stuff, which is awesome. I went to a few local fabric stores and found some recycled nylon that felt just right. It was tough, but also kinda smooth, just like the real deal. I also needed some chain straps. I managed to find some that were pretty close to the ones in the pictures.
- Sourcing Materials:
- Recycled nylon fabric
- Chain straps
- Zipper
Next up, I started sketching out the pattern. I’m not a pro at this, but I took my time and drew out each piece on some large sheets of paper. I measured everything based on the dimensions I could find online, trying to make it as accurate as possible. Once the pattern was ready, I laid it out on the nylon fabric and carefully cut out each piece.
Now came the fun part – sewing. I dusted off my old sewing machine and got to work. I started with the main body of the bag, carefully stitching the pieces together. It was a bit tricky to get the seams just right, but I took it slow and made sure everything lined up. Then, I added the lining, which was a bit of a challenge, but I managed to get it in there nice and neat.
Sewing Process
- Stitch main body pieces together
- Add lining to the inside
- Attach zipper to the top
- Sew on chain straps to the sides
The zipper was next. This was important because I saw some comments online about the zipper on the real bag being a bit finicky. I made sure the zipper I picked was sturdy and sewed it on extra carefully. After a few tries, I got it on there straight and smooth.
Finally, I attached the chain straps. I sewed them onto the sides of the bag, reinforcing the stitches so they wouldn’t come loose. It was a bit of a workout, but I got them on there nice and secure.
And there it was, my very own PRADA Re-Edition 1995 Chaine Re-Nylon Tote Bag. It wasn’t perfect, but I was pretty darn proud of it. It looked great, felt sturdy, and the zipper worked like a charm. Plus, I made it with recycled materials, so that’s a big win in my book. It was a fun project, and I learned a lot along the way. Might even try making another one sometime!
