Alright, so I got my hands on this watch, the OMEGA X-33 Marstimer, the one they’re calling the “Classic Style.” Let me tell you, it’s been a bit of a journey figuring this thing out, but I’m finally getting the hang of it, and I gotta share my experience.
First off, I saw this Marstimer and an X-33 Solar Impulse at the OB in Costa Mesa a few weeks back. Got to try them on, and I was instantly hooked. I mean, who wouldn’t be? Space exploration, Mars, it’s all pretty darn cool. So, I started digging around, reading up on this whole X-33 line. There are, like, four generations of these things! It’s wild. I was torn between the Skywalker and the Marstimer, but ultimately, the whole Mars thing won me over. It’s a total gimmick, telling time on Mars, but I love it. A real conversation starter, you know?
So, I finally got my hands on one. It took a while, but it was worth it. Unboxing it, the first thing I noticed was how it looks. It’s kinda like a G-Shock, all matte and tough-looking. But it’s not just for show, every little detail is there for a reason. It feels solid, like it can take a beating. It ditches that tachymetre scale, which is cool, makes it less busy looking. And the whole Martian time zone thing, oh man, that’s just the ultimate nerd function. I love it! I doubt I’ll ever actually need it, but it’s just so cool to have.
Using this thing has been an adventure in itself.
- Getting Started: Figuring out the basic functions was the first hurdle. Setting the time and date, that was straightforward enough. But then there are all these other modes, and I had to actually read the manual. Who reads manuals anymore, right?
- Mars Time: This was the big one. Switching to the Mars time mode took a bit of button pressing, but once I got it, it was awesome. Seeing the time on another planet, right there on my wrist, that’s just mind-blowing.
- Daily Use: Now that I’ve got the hang of it, I’ve been wearing it every day. It’s comfortable, it’s accurate, and it just feels good on my wrist.
I’m still figuring out all the little nuances of this watch, but that’s part of the fun. It’s not just a watch, it’s a little piece of space exploration history. And the fact that it can tell me the time on Mars? Come on, that’s just the coolest thing ever. If you’re even thinking about getting one of these, just do it. You won’t regret it.
It tells the time, both here and on Mars, I mean, how can you not love it? It’s a solid watch. It is absolutely a cool watch and worth buying.
