Okay, guys, so I’ve been eyeing this OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch for a while now. It’s like, the classic “Moonwatch,” you know? I mean, this is the watch the astronauts wore on the moon! How cool is that?
So, I started looking around, checking out different places that sell them. I wanted to make sure I got a real one, not some knock-off. I learned that the real deal comes with a warranty card that has an 8-digit serial number and some other info like the date you bought it and where you got it. Good to know!
I saw a deal online that seemed almost too good to be true. The pictures looked legit, but you never know with these things. I was a little worried, I ain’t gonna lie. I was like, “Is this thing for real?” I remembered reading somewhere that the Moonwatch is manual winding, so I double-checked that in the description. Seemed right.
I did some more digging and found out there are a bunch of different Speedmaster models. This one, the Moonwatch Professional, is supposed to have a 42mm case. There’s another one called the “Speedmaster Reduced” which is, well, smaller. Also, I discovered that the real Moonwatch has these cool, kind of twisted lugs. They looked right in the photos too.
Then I looked closely at the subdials. Apparently, on the real ones, the 9 o’clock subdial is the one that shows the seconds ticking by. I made a mental note to check that if I ever got to see it in person. It needed a full service, but I didn’t care about that.
After all this research, I felt a bit more confident. The watch in the pictures seemed to match up with everything I’d learned about the real Moonwatch. Those twisted lugs were there, the size seemed right, and it was manual winding. Fingers crossed!
I decided to go for it and bought it. When it arrived, the first thing I did was check for that warranty card. Boom! There it was, with the serial number and everything. Then I checked those lugs and the subdial. All good. It’s pretty crazy to think that this watch is connected to the Apollo missions. There were only two models worn on the moon, I think it was 105.012 and 145.012.
It felt amazing to finally hold it in my hands. It’s a solid piece of history. I mean, this is the watch that went to the moon! It’s not just a watch; it’s a piece of history. It also took five years for Rolex to update its chronograph to match the Speedmaster. It is not ‘better’ than any other Speedmaster, it’s just a name.
I’m so stoked to finally have my own OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch. It was a bit of a journey to make sure I was getting the real deal, but it was totally worth it. I love this watch.
