Alright, so the other day, I was looking at this Patek Philippe Nautilus 5713, the one you see on their official flagship store. It’s a real beauty, right? I mean, who wouldn’t want one? But, the price tag? Forget about it! So, I thought, why not try to remake it myself? A little ambitious, yeah, but what’s the harm in trying?
First, I started by gathering some reference materials. I spent hours online, just staring at pictures of the 5713. You know, like a weirdo, zooming in on every tiny detail. I checked out some watch forums and found a bunch of discussions about the Nautilus. I even found an online URL decoder, and that really helped me get some detailed specs of the real thing.
Next, I started working on the design. I used a free online tool to sketch out the watch face and the bracelet. It wasn’t easy, let me tell you. Getting those proportions right was a real pain. I also downloaded a bunch of high-resolution images of the watch and used them as a guide. I had to create a lot of custom shapes, especially for the case and the bezel. The whole thing felt like trying to put together a super complicated puzzle with no instructions.
After I finished the design, I moved on to the materials. I couldn’t afford real diamonds and white gold, obviously. So, I had to get creative. I used some shiny metal I found at a local craft store for the case and bracelet. For the diamonds, I used these little sparkly things that are usually used for nail art. It was pretty tough to stick them on, and I definitely messed up a few times. Oh, and for the watch movement, I just used a cheap one I got online. It’s not like anyone’s going to see the inside, right?
The whole assembly process was like a movie, a real long one. I spent days cutting, shaping, and polishing the metal. I even tried to recreate that signature Nautilus bracelet, and boy, was that a challenge. I wanted it to be better than other remakes, so I tried to make the “diamonds” pop more, you know, like in that movie Suspiria. I don’t think I did that well though.
Finally, after what felt like forever, it was done! I mean, it’s not perfect, not even close. It doesn’t really look like the real thing in many parts, and the “diamonds” keep falling off. It’s more of a tribute, I guess. But you know what? I made it. I took something I really wanted but couldn’t have, and I made my own version of it.
This whole project was a huge learning experience. I learned a ton about design, materials, and how watches are put together. Plus, I got to exercise my creativity and problem-solving skills. And the best part? I have a cool story to tell. Every time someone asks me about my “Patek Philippe,” I get to share this whole adventure.
So, if you’re ever thinking about remaking something you love, go for it! It might not turn out exactly how you imagined, but the process itself is totally worth it. Just be prepared to put in some serious time and effort. And remember, it’s all about having fun and learning something new.
I felt like posting an update, like a v0.8.1, on this project, I’ll probably tweak it here and there, but for now, this is it. It’s like my own little universe where I can create whatever I want. This whole thing is kind of like a movie series or a franchise, I guess, I started with a remake, now maybe I will try something else and rank these projects later!
