Alright, so I got this wild idea to try and remake a Patek Philippe watch. Yeah, I know, it’s crazy. But I was like, why not? I picked the Gondolo 7042/100G-010. That’s a lot of numbers and letters, but basically, it’s a pretty fancy watch.

First, I started digging around for info. What did I even need? I found some stuff online about the real watch. Turns out, it’s made of 18K white gold, has a case size of 31 x 34.8 mm, and is covered in diamonds. I mean, it’s called the “Gondolo Diamond Paved Dial” for a reason, right?

I decided I wanted to copy the look, so I started looking for materials that look like the white gold and diamonds they use. Got some shiny metal and a bunch of sparkly, fake diamonds, because who can afford real ones? Not me, that’s for sure.

  • Gathered my tools: I’m talking pliers, glue, a magnifying glass, the whole nine yards. I felt like a real watchmaker, even though I totally wasn’t.
  • Started with the watch face: I found a plain, round watch face that was about the right size. This was the base for all the bling I was gonna add.
  • Attached the “diamonds”: This took forever. I glued each tiny, fake diamond onto the watch face, trying to copy the pattern from the pictures I found. My back was killing me, but I kept at it.
  • Made the watch band: The real one is white gold, but I just used a silvery, metal band I found. It’s not the same, but it kinda looks like it if you squint.

After many hours and lots of breaks, I finally finished. Did it look exactly like the real Patek Philippe Gondolo 7042/100G-010? Nope, not really. But it did have the same vibe, you know? It was sparkly, it was silver, and it told time. I was pretty proud of my little project, even though it was a bit rough around the edges.

It was a fun experiment. I learned a lot about watches and how much work goes into making those fancy ones. Would I do it again? Maybe. It was a lot of work, but it was also pretty satisfying to see the finished product.
